DIY GIANT SKITTLE

It’s October once again and now, in what is turning into some type of tradition, we give ourselves the task of oversizing one of our favorite Halloween candies. This year we pinpointed the Skittle as what may have been a nearly undoable task and had to find a way. There’s no use eating an entire bag of skittles any more. Just make one giant one!

  1. Combine sugar, corn syrup, kern oil, corn starch, heat to 265°F, take off the heat and add flavoring.

  2. Pour into bowl lined with parchment paper.

  3. Allow candy to sit for 1 hour before handling.

  4. Take your candies out of the bowl and reshape each into that flat circular shape of the skittle.

  5. Create your candy hard shell by heating sugar and corn syrup in a medium sauce pan at medium high heat until it reaches the crack stage of 295°F-310°F.

  6. Add in your white & red food coloring quickly stirring then transfer immediately to a bowl with ice water to let the mixture rapidly cool. Make sure no water gets into your candy hard shell. Once the bubbles stop you can pour the hard shell over the skittle.

Tip: Do what we did in the video when pouring.
  7. Once it cools down you can handle it and reshape it accordingly.

  8. To put that signature "S" on the skittle, we found the best method for us was to sift some white powdered sugar over a stencil and because the candy was still slightly tacky, the sugar stuck to it quite well.

  9. This is a very advanced recipe, so proceed with caution and the intent to have a couple of fails.
